The 15th European Lead Battery Conference took place from 13th to 16th September 2016 in Valletta, Malta.

    Continuus-Properzi attended the conference and was represented by our Mr. Gabriele Muscarnera, who illustrated our Lead Division capabilities and specially our “Wide grids from lead strip for  punched grids.

    The tendency today is towards punched grids requiring a strip which is about 330 mm wide.

The wide strip is punched into grids having a full frame and therefore can withstand the high compression requested in the elements of AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) batteries.  The wide strip can be punched according to any design as defined by the customer and since the strip is continuously cast and rolled it provides significant savings in weight.

We have therefore developed and optimized the casting and rolling of wide lead strip.  These developments include: four-wheel type in-line casting; minimum cast strip thickness; new, sturdy, independently-driven rolling stands, etc.  Obviously, all other related machinery has been redesigned accordingly to accommodate the wide strip casting and rolling process.

The main characteristic of punched grids can be summarized in some focal points:

  •  Various capacity starting from 5.5 tph
  • The only process for the production of positive and  negative grids

  • The only upgradeable equipment

  • Strip width up to 360 mm (wider strip can be produced upon request)

  • Grid thickness starting from 0.65 mm

  • Furnace Set designed to continuously re-melt the scrap resulting from the punching process

  • Metallurgical characteristics of the Properzi wide strip  include:

  • Effective weight Reduction

  • Increase of specific Performance

  • Grid with elevated mechanical characteristics
